赞歌(The Gitanjali.)

         其一

  我生无终极。造化乐其功。微躯历代谢。生理资无穷。
  越来千山谷。短笛鸣和雍。和雍挹汝美。日新以永终。
  汝手不死触。乐我百障空。锡我以嘉言。乃绝言语踪。
  弱手载群惠。万劫无尽工。

         其二

  当汝命我歌。矜喜动肝膈。举目睹汝面。不觉泪盈睫。
  纯一而和谐。泯我百徽繣。乐如海上鸥。临波厉羽翮。
  前进致我歌。我歌汝怿悦。
  余音溢天衢。稀宠幸接迹。
  欢歌醉忘我。苍冥为友戚。

         其三

  深夜群动息。吾亦百虑消。偃卧无所营。委身任灵保。
  惰气渎神命。母令相混淆。
  夜色若张幕。倦眼息尘劳。朝醒乐新景。感此神功高。

         其四

  远离恐怖心。矫首出尘表。
  慧力无尽藏。
  体性遍明窈。
  语发真理源。
  奋臂赴完好。
  清流径寒碛。而不迷中道。
  行解趣永旷。心径资灵诏。
  挈临自在天。使我长皎皎。

            1.

  Thou hast made me endless,such is thy pleasure. This frail vessel
thou emptiest again and again,and fillest it ever with fresh life.
  This little flute of s reed thou hast carried over hills and
dales,and hast breathed through it melodies eternally new.
  At the immortal touch of thy hands my little heart loses its
limits in joy and gives birth to utterance ineffable.
  Thy infinite gifts come to me only on these very small hands of
mine.Ages pass,and still thou pourest,and still there is room to fill
.

            2.

  When thou commandest me to sing it seems that my heart would
break with pride;and I look to thy face,and tears come to my eyes.
  All that is harsh and dissonant in my life melts into one sweet
harmony and my adoration speads wings like a glad bird on its flight
across the sea.
  I know thou takest pleasure in my singing.I now that only as a
singer I come before thy presence.
  I touch by the edge of the far spreading wing of my song the feet
which I could never aspire to reach.
  Drunk with the joy of singing I forget myself and call thee
friend who art my lord.

            3.

  In the night of weariness let me give myself up to sleep without
struggle,resting my trust upon thee.
  Let me not force my flagging spirit into a poor prepara'ion for
thy worship.
  It is thou who drewest the veil of night upon the tired eyes of
the day to renew its sight in a fresher gladness of awakening.

            4.

  Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
  Where knowledge is free;
  Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow
domestic walls;
  Where words come out from the depth of truth;
  Where tireless striving stretches its arms to-wards perfection;
  Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the
dreary desert sand of dead habit;
  Where the mind ie led forward by thee into ever- widening thought
and action一
  Into that heaven of freedom,my Father,let my country awake.

[Gitanjali 印度语也。 gita 之义歌也。 anjali 之义合掌也。合二语而为
gitanjali英译为Song Offering之义。R.Tagore.（达噶尔）印度当代之诗人。
提倡东洋之精神文明者也。曾受Nobel Peace Prize。驰名欧洲。印度青年尊为
先觉。其诗文富於宗教哲学之理想。Gitanjali 乃歌颂梵天之作。兹取其四章译
之。第一章Thou hast=You have 下仿此。emptiest= empty  fillest = fill
through ft 之 it 乃flute 之代名词也。new 为形容 melody 之 Adjective。
eternally 。为形容 New 之 Adverb。 utherance ineffable= 难言之言
第二章 on its flight=which is flying.drunk with 乃 being drunk with
之省文。 call thee friend who art my lord 之 who 乃 thee 之 Relative
Pronoun.第三章 for thy worship=to worship you.第四章 my Father=my God.]
